"In January 2003, my wife and I left the safety of Johannesburg (South Africa) behind and took a big step through the looking glass into the land of Oz. We have settled in the lower North shore of Sydney, New South Wales.

Although it was the right decision for many reasons, it has not been easy. Although we did a fair bit of research before our move, we have still managed to make a couple of "mistakes" that we could have avoided - IF (the big if) we had had just a little better insight into the unknown.

Each person's experience of the great trek is different, but we believe that we have some clues to making your transition and assimilation a little easier. That is the main reason for this website - to provide you with information we wished we had access to when first arriving in Oz." - Mark

If you are a first time visitor to the site, understanding the navigation and structure of the site's information will improve both your experience and access to the information.

Navigation:

MAIN: The website is divided into 5 main areas of interest which can be navigated to by the main menu across the top and bottom of each page:

  1. The basics: this covers most of the information you should require to successfully move to Oz.

  2. Australia: from the general need to know info, to the specifics of each state and major towns.

  3. About us: gives you an idea of who we are and what we do for a living.

  4. Our Community: this section aims to give expat-owned businesses and regular contributors some exposure.

  5. Home: this page which will always highlight the recent changes to the website

SUB-SECTION: Each main section is further indexed by the menus on the left of the screen. The "BACK" option will always take you back to where you have last clicked from - like the back function of your internet browser (eg. IE or Netscape).

Information Structure
In most cases it will be in the structure seen below:
our thoughts what are your options further info
This is purely our own take on reality. Remember that this may vary from yours (and it should), but can form the basis for some understanding of your future down under... Here we try to provide you with some of the options we considered. Again, this is not an all-inclusive list, but merely a starting point in your research. A list of websites normally gives you the freedom to do some research for yourself. Just a word of warning: don't trust everything you read as gospel. Take a healthy bite of common sense before tucking into this information feast.
